While we are celebrating our 63rd Republic day, we take a look at a few Muslim contribution to the patriotic songs in India over the years. The list is not exhaustive and considers that those most popular.
1 "Watan ki raah mein watan ke naujawaan shaheed hon' of starrer Dilip Kumar Shaheed (1948). Qamar Jalalabadi texts, sung by Mohd Rafi, at height of Ghulam Haider is popular, even after 64 years of the release of the film.
2 ' Ye desh hai veer jawano ka' film Naya Daur (1957). Lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi sung by Rafi.
3 «Desh ka ibrahima» of the lesser known film Masoom (1960). Raja Mehdi Ali Khan wrote the adorable child song lyrics.
4 "Sare jahan is Habib ' by Allama Iqbal. The immortal yiddish poem was sung by many singers over the years, with such a duo of Rafi and Asha Bhosle for Dharamputra (1961).
5 «Insaaf ki dagar pe» film Ganga Jamuna. The 1961 classic had this gem written by Shakeel Badayuni with music by Naushad.
6 'Philippe munna rahi hoon"from Mehboob son of the India (1962). The duo of Naushad and Shakeel yet behind this effort attaching.
7 'Ab tumhare hawale watan sathiyon' film award National Haqeeqat (1964), which remains the most accurate account of representation of the war on the Indian screen. The words of movement by Kaifi Azmi have given a moving interpretation Mohd Rafi. A timeless classic.
8 ' Apni aazaadi ko hum ' of the film Leader (1964). Rafi, Shakeel and Naushad teams for this winner. Dilip Kumar says his aura to the on screen representation.
9 "Aye watan aye watan" of starrer Manoj Kumar Shaheed (1965). A song brilliant by the inimitable Rafi. The favorite.
10 'Sandese aate hain' border (1997). ANU Malik has provided the music for the song written by Javed Akhtar.
11 'Maa tujhe salam 'from the album of 1997 Vande Mataram by A.R. Rahman. Rahman composed the tune for lyrics by Mehboob and then he sang with passion. It remains the most influential patriotic song of the modern era. The album sold 1.5 million copies in the year of liberation in India only. So far, it is the largest selling album of no film in India.
12 "Zindagi maut na ban jaaye ' of Sarfarosh (1999). The immensely popular number of the starrer acclaimed of Amir Khan was written by Israr Ansari.
13 ' Ye tera hai jo' of starrer Shahrukh Khan Swades (2004). A number beautifully Sung and composed by Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
14 "Sarfaroshi Ki heap" by Ram Prasad Bismil freedom fighter. The revolutionary masterpiece Urdu was brought to life by Rafi, Dey and Rajendra Mehta in Shaheed (1965). A.R. Rahman gave his touch to the words, first in The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) and supported with a powerful rendition by Amir Khan in the cult classic Rang De Basanti (2006).
15 'Rang basanti' film Rang De Basanti. A peppy number and relevant to today's youth. Naturally, it was the music of Rahman.
