The second of the five pillars of Islam, "salat" can be better translated as 'connection', from the root (sila) we connect.
This action represents the service or submission to the will of Almighty God (Allah in Arabic).

Salat - usually called 'prayer' is five
(5) times a day by believing Muslim.

Is the word for prayer in Arabic (dua')-petition or supplication, that can be done anywhere, at any time without worrying about movements, direction, or the cleanliness of the body.

The Salat is performed only in certain directives, facing the direction of Mecca (Qibla), being in a State of cleanliness (wudu'), be properly covered, make standard movements in order and some time constraints.

Salat had been previously implemented in the teachings of the Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Christianity and it needed a righteous people of the past, but with the advent of Muhammad, peace be upon him, it became mandatory for all believers to be carried out on a regular daily basis.

The Quran (recitation of Allah for all) at the beginning and throughout the Qur'an, we find the reference to the establishment and perform the salat, as one of the greatest signs of a true believer.

We find in the Koran that Allah had ordered the disciples of Moses in the past:

Surah Baqarah (the cow), Chapter 2, ayah (verse) 43:

And establish salat (prayer conjunctive) and give zakat (purification of wealth by the charity) and with those who bow [in worship and obedience].

Ask the help of sabr (perseverance) and salat (prayer connection). It is difficult, except for the humble.

Surah Baqarah, aayah 45 & 46:

And seek help through sabr (patience and perseverance) and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult with the exception of those who humbly submitted (to Allah), which are some, they will meet their Lord, and they return to him.

Surah Baqarah (the cow), ayah 239:

Ensure cohesion in the salat, in particular the the middle one. Stand for Allah to all your devotion.

Sura An-Nisaa' (Chapter 4, The Women), ayah 46:

O you who believe, do not salat if you're drunk because you will not understand the meaning of your words; or when you're in impure, unless you are travelling, until you have wudu (washed to the top or ablution). If you're sick or travelling and unable to do the wudu, or you yourself have (past gas, urine or defecated) relieved or had sexual relations with your spouse and find no water, then take some fine soil or dust, rub lightly on your face and hands. Allah is Ar-Rahman (the most merciful), Al-Ghafur (the all forgiving).

Surat Al Israa'(chapter 17, the night journey), ayah 78:

Establish prayer, Quran reading (aloud), the sunset until the darkness of the night and dawn. Indeed, the recitation at dawn is ever seen.

Surat Al Israa', ayah 110:

Say, ' call to Allah or call for the (most merciful) Al-Rahman, who, (names), you call - him belong the best names.

And recite not (too) strong in your salat or (too) quiet, but seek the middle way.
